FOREWORD It is a special pleasure for me to see this volume of Tongass Tlingit texts appear. I distinctly remember a conversation with Jeff Leer in aboutwhen he mentioned to me that some years before, abouthe had noticed that one elderly couple in Ketchikan spoke a remarkably different dialect of Southern Tlingit.
